Gordo was right about the Eurobro’s effectively having a money printer via the Eurodollar system. If you store money with a foreign bank, they can turn around and loan out those dollars.
Loaning out dollars is an inflationary event. Loaning out dollars is effectively money creation.
The banks in the U.S. can do that too, but what’s different about the foreign banks being able to do it is that they are not subject to U.S. laws and regulations. They are not subject to U.S. laws regarding things like the Patriot act, reserve rates, interest rates, etc.
Foreign banks could also loan money to enemies of the U.S., effectively bypassing sanctions.
Prior to the implementation of SOFR in 2022, we really didn’t have much influence on the Eurodollar system. Now we can at least set the benchmark interest rates, which is a step in the right direction.
Prior to the implementation of SOFR, the benchmark rate was LIBOR, which had a bunch of (((European banks))) arbitrarily picking the benchmark interest rate.
There was a paper I read that said more dollars were created outside of the U.S. than by the U.S., and that “The United States is picking up the pieces of a party thrown by others.” That’s a great soundbite for normies.

This extends beyond the eurobros, but they are the largest offenders of this. I think the only way to “fix” this sort of issue, of other countries effectively creating your currency, is for another currency to become the world reserve currency, or some strain of CBDC.
