Magnus, you sound like a young-ish guy and with that, there is proneness to hasty judgment. I am referring to your belief that people who are not Christian just need to read the Scriptures.
It is a common belief, but there are problems with it.
A) There is a multitude of Christians who have never read the Scripture. Their parents were, the church is convenient, the programs for kids are great, everyone on their street already goes there, why would they “waste time” going through confusing alien musty scrolls when they believe already?
B) There is a smaller group of non-Christians and Christian dropouts who are the way they are precisely BECAUSE they have above-average or fluent familiarity with the Scriptures.
Think of people who are Holocaust deniers because they watched Schindler’s List. Encouraging such people to re-watch this magnificent documentary is probably not a very efficient recruitment tool.
For the record, I encourage anyone with spare time to read the Scripture and watch pro-Holocaust productions. Sense for yourself what is the producers’ intent for the audience.
