Seated a few miles north of Delmar Boulevard, the informal dividing line between White and Black Saint Louis, is Normandy High School. In many ways Normandy is unremarkable, even its mascot, a Viking (an irony given its distinctively non-Scandinavian student body) is shared with at least 2 other schools in the area, but for a few years it was the locus of racial politics in Saint Louis, and a microcosm of the trend many of us are personally familiar with: failing Black schools and their consequences.

For many in the dissident sphere the immediate answer to the question of ideology is National Socialism, full-stop. But, without reigniting the optics debate, it is a rather hard sell to the general public. Attempts to explain National Socialist policies and worldview are quickly subsumed in relitigating World War II. That is a steep hill to climb, built-up as it has been over the years on the deluge of propaganda which surrounds National Socialist Germany.

Burton’s filmmaking has its dark gothic beauty and a more timeless feel, whereas Blade is a loud, aggressively modern film with a black lead. Today, I will be taking you into this fine piece of cinematic anti-semitism and look at how once one overcomes their reflexive racism and unlocks their next stage, “postjudice,” Blade can be a quite enjoyable film to watch with your friends, eyes and teeth and all.
