There is a popular saying among whitewater rafting enthusiasts: participate in your own rescue. The principle behind this is simple. If you fall out of the boat, you are going to have to do some of the work to get back in. Don’t sit there like a bump on a log, help them help you. The same is true in modern society, as we have seen time and time again.
This extends beyond things like asking someone to help you do something and letting them do all the work. That is still a problem though, and you know who you are. If you ask someone to check out your tractor that won’t start, don’t stand there drinking a beer. Assist them. Try and learn something.
What about your needs, and your families needs? Do you think the supermarket will always be there and stocked for you? A more pressing question is, will you be able to afford to buy those things? Will you have any usable money at all? One of the tenets of the end-times is the denial of normal commerce for those who don’t accept the mark. It’s not far-fetched to think the government will try and prevent you from transacting.
I’m not advocating for you to go out and buy some chickens, though if you have the space you might consider it. Even a small garden is a good start, and will provide a foundation for growing more if you need. There are hanging plants that can be grown even in a small space. It might not be enough to sustain you long term, but when SHTF you will be glad for the knowledge.
I will concede that folks living in a big city in an apartment face restricted options on this front. You know what they don’t lack, though, is freedom of movement. It may be that you cannot afford to move immediately, but you can work toward that goal. Plenty of places to live with some property for cheap. Seize the opportunities afforded to you by our forefathers.
Participation in church is a great place to start this journey if you are not already. You will meet self-sufficient people because attending requires effort. Become a part of a community. You have something to offer, and they in-turn, will have something to offer you.
The government is not coming to save you.
The police are not coming to save you.
You have to participate in your own rescue, when the time comes.
