I have always fervently believed that the whole meaning of offering to God is something that the priest can use.
But the most perfect unblemished, never yoked, showroom condition red heifer is to be incinerated hooves, tail, dung and all? where is the holy man’s vigorish?
I have really enjoyed that passage from Numbers 19, describing the red heifer procedure. It demonstrates with stunning contrast just how alien these folks were and are.
If the scripture passage is accurate, it is also an indictment of the tetragrammaton Himself, Y-H-V-H or whatever he feels like calling himself.
So far, I suppose you are with me, SuperLutheran.
But then, the truly stunning step-up arrives. No longer it is the right thing to do to incinerate a unique bovine to convince the Lawgiver that you are to be rewarded.
Now, what needs to be tortured and killed in a sham of a trial is the unique human! Conceived without any blemish, the most perfect defect-free specimen of mankind.
What sort of secret decoder ring one needs to have to reject the barbaric nonsense of Numbers and find a heavenly release and blissful fulfillment in the New Testament?
