So a guy made an argument that Pascal’s Wager applies between denominations, and told the world that Catholicism wins that wager. Today, let’s talk about the wager, why it’s great, and evaluate whether it really applies against us filthy PROTS.

So if we apply Pascal’s wager to Catholicism, the best play is to become Muslim, got it! Let’s go gambling!
In my experience when talking with an atheist or an agnostic, they get pretty annoyed when Pascal’s wager is invoked, and generally will monkey branch to any objection possible, especially if it’s not in good faith. While you can say that Christianity has the worst consequences for getting it wrong out of any religion (which it does), an atheist would say they have created a religion where the punishments are EVEN WORSE, and if we only go by Pascal’s wager, then they should believe their made up religion instead.
This ignores the prerequisites you mentioned to the wager, which include having a reasonable warrant for belief in the religion beforehand. The bottom line is you’ll still need to do your presuppositional apologetic homework to bring them to an agnostic point before invoking the wager.
I don’t think there’s any one-line, silver-bullet “gotcha” that will win over someone arguing in bad faith. Lord willing the Holy Spirit is working upon their heart.
Absolutely. The Wager is fantastic for stating the facts on the ground concerning everyone’s situation, but simply presenting that to someone will not stop them from arguing in bad faith. But at that point, I’d hope that they are more honest with themselves after the conversation than they are when speaking with you.
