I know that as long as the Grenada adventure is remembered/considered a success, the spirit is alive. What spirit, one might ask?
The spirit of appetite for tales of wonder and merriment. The iconic scenes of Tom Hanks almost repelling a charging Tiger tank with 1911 handheld device.
The soaring of Tom Cruise in a trusty ol’ F-14 plane, dodging and weaving the dastardly (but doomed) black fighter planes.
Harrison Ford clinging to the submarine tower, traversing the oceans blue and punching Nahrtzees.
That’s what the broad public craves, and by gum that’s what will be delivered.
I am also very appreciative of the omission of the great mangrove unpleasantness.
Grenada’s capital city is a sprawling metropolis of about 30,000 souls. In the best scenario, during the lull of nutmeg harvest, the armed forces could field a whole two (TWO) companies of fierce Wakandan Warriors. And a company of Cuban mercs.
So forget the Vietnam, Afghanistan, Mesopotamia and other powerhouses of the Earth.
Grenada is the sort of opponent where the elite teams shine (unless there’s mangroves on the coastline. These things are nasty, different than Alaskan devil’s club but not much an improvement over it).
If Grenada, or Bujumbura, or even Kiki-Riki-Tavi ever decides to hoard its nutmeg (or palm fronds, or boobaloo grubs) for themselves, or decline our glorious aid, advice and comprehensive assistance, We The People will send in The Marines. Who will then help the heathens get squared away, stat.
Meanwhile, in another _Theater_ of operations, the US Navy outsources the constructions of its vessels to Korea and India (how is that even legal?!).
The index of shipbuilding capability of the US is 1, which is a nice dominant number that everyone knows and uses. Compared to 1, the shipbuilding capability of China pegs out at a paltry 232.
ONE is a number at the top, where everyone strives to be. ONE is what you need to dial to speak to America when you are abroad. 232 is not even in top 200 of numbers. So we will cover China up with our munificent, modern and advanced Korean/Pajeet vessels, from one end of horizon to the other.
China has a jet powered drone that can hang out at 12 miles high for 20 hours.
Anyway, why am I retelling the picture so capably told elsewhere. Confucius, DeepSeek, and Why China Would Win a War with the United States at unz dot com.
Back in my day, a lot of effort was put into pushing a wedge between Russia and China. But this mindset is now passe, let them join forces as close as they can. It don’t matter none.
In “Casablanca”, Ilsa asks Rick “But what about us?”
Ricks says “We’ll always have Paris”.
Well… Paris has fallen, Mein Fuehrer…
We’ll always have Grenada.
