The Smoke Pit – Rick And Super Talk About Movies For 2 Hours

Posted on April 19, 2025April 19, 2025 by Smoke Pit

Exactly what the title says. Rick and Super talk about military movies for about 2 hours. Tune in for a riveting, but laid back, discussion. Or don’t, I’m not your dad.

“Stretcher runs.” You mean the Skedco Slolum? Those were indeed a bitch. The guys carrying the Skedco were very rough because of the perceived “easiness” of being the guy strapped in. Being strapped in was not nearly as nice as they thought, as they eventually found out. Your brain is getting rattled and your organs are churning and you’re imbibing all of the collective hate that’s been piling up in your squad towards you. And what happens when it’s your turn to carry the Skedco with the next casualty? You do the exact same thing to them. Any sane or rational person would say “hey, all of it sucks, stop making it suck for that guy” and any Soldier would tell that guy to ETADIK. Man’s inhumanity to man, etc. The worst was when another unit was on a leisurely ruck march walking past as you’re strapping in the next victim and they’d start humming the “Army Strong” theme. Then PT is done and you go back to doing your real job. Like unloading and reloading CONEXes and police-calling the motor-pool. I hated Garrison Army.

On this anniversary of the Central-European Watercolorist’s ᛉ, I have read 1st Corinthians 15 TWICE.
In broad stroke, I fully concur with the opening verse.
Resurrection of Yeshua is the keystone to the arc.
Resurrection of, say, Lazarus is just a miraculous event.
Take away the keystone and what is left is just Pharisees and Saduccees, smelly sandals, sweaty robes, dry hand rubbing, whips of centurions, delatores, etc.

Meanwhile, I come here and all I get is some discussion about military movies.
I feel like Rolo Tomasi is about to pounce in, expositing on Tha Woman Kang (2022).

    “Get back in your bunks!
What is this Mickey Mouse shit?
What in the name of Jesus H. Christ are you two animals doing in my head? “

Was it my podcast, I’d rant abt The Enemy Below (1957) and Das Boot (1981), the 6 part TV series.

Re: former, I am still laughing how the German Korvetten-Kapitän while depth charged by an American destroyer finds the _English_ version of Alte Dessauer on the 45 rpm record and sings it _in English_ to drum up morale.
    Lel!

Re: latter, the entire production lacks the weak spots. I think of it as a Homerian Odyssey. Without Penelope and other wailing broads.

But this is ‘Murkuh, Rick & his 2 Martini breakfast cannot be intrigued by anything E of Mississippi, so, natch, the 57Heinz varieties of indeterminate composition Ameri-mutt look for adventure in all the wrong places.

I felt being somewhat cheated by the absence of mentioning the Act of Valor (2012) and Warfare (2025).
Oh well. I got out of this podcast just abt what I paid in. Minus processing. And miscellanea. And conversion factor.

Lüttje Lager! Lüttje Lager! man erkennt seine Pappenheimer!

I had a bunch more I wanted to go over, but after 2 hours it gets tedious to talk into a mic. We have a bit of a time difference for the hosts as well so it was getting late. I’ve heard good things about Warfare but haven’t seen it, and I don’t believe it was released when we recorded this one. There is 4-5 days or so between recording and release, our editor is a busy man. This show is free and always will be, you get what you pay for. And it’s east of the Rockies btw, not the Mississippi . Can’t stand eastniggers
